a collection for HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust was taken. The amount raised was

Could you not wait until Mass is finished?

SAINT
PETER'S WEBSITE - RECORDING OUR HISTORY TODAY
Two years ago, on 13 July 2005,
Saint Peter's website was launched. The site has over 700 pages, 430 photographs,
160 bulletins between 1960 and 2007, 4200 links and some audio clips of the choir.
It has attracted over 21000 visits. It contains many articles on past and present
spiritual and community life in Saint Peter's. Father
Matt and the website author are very grateful to those who have accessed the
site, lent photographs, passed on stories, identified errors, made suggestions
and expressed compliments. The aims of the site are to make parishioners aware
of current events and record our history. If you can help with this project, please
contact WebsiteAuthor@SaintPeterinChains.net.
HCPT
- THE PILGRIMAGE TRUST - SPONSORED CYCLE
Esther Coulter would like to thank
all those who supported the recent sponsored cycle for HCPT. The amount raised
was £1050. This, plus previous monies raised, allows us to pay for three
children to go to Lourdes in Easter 2008. Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Bernadette,
pray for us.
SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL
RELIEF - PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
Scottish International Relief (SIR) works
with some of the poorest people
in the third world countries such as Malawi, Liberia, Peru, Ecuador, India and
Uganda, amongst others. SIR offers help by collecting unwanted clothes, bedding,
bric-a-brac and tools. They then send the goods donated as aid or raise funds
through shops for overseas projects. SIR will be visiting Saint Peter's on Saturday
15 and Sunday 16 September. There will be more details nearer the time. Photographs
of the last two years' visits by Scottish
International Relief are on the Pictures
page.
GAVIN
FINNEGAN
Gavin's family has requested family flowers only at his funeral. Instead
of flowers, if you wish, a donation may be made towards the Blessed
Sacrament Chapel.

I
LEFT MY HARP
An
angel was feeling rather blue with the uniform sameness of heaven and went to
see Saint Peter. "All I do" the angel said"is play the harp endlessly
and I'm getting bored." Saint Peter asked "What would you rather do?"
The angel answered "I like to dance." "We don't allow dancing here
in heaven," Saint Peter said "but I can see you need a change so I will
allow you to take advantage of a once-in-an-eternal- lifetime offer. I will allow
you 24 hours leave to return to earth and dance." "I'm gone" the
angel said and in a trice the angel was in California and quickly found a dance
hall run by Samuel Frank. Checking the harp and wings, the angel boogied and danced
and had a great time until just seconds remained of the leave. The angel grabbed
up the wings and immediately was in heaven again. Returning to Saint Peter, the
angel said "I'm back and I am so happy. I'll never feel bored again."
Saint Peter said "That's wonderful, but where is your musical instrument?"
"Oh, no" the angel said "I left my harp in Sam Frank's Disco.".

READINGS
The readings for this weekend's Masses
are shown below in English. They are available in eleven other languages
including French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish by clicking on this
link.
First
Reading Genesis 18:1-10
The
Lord appeared to Abraham at the Oak of Mamre while he was sitting by the entrance
of the tent during the hottest part of the day. He looked up, and there he saw
three men standing near him. As soon as he saw them he ran from the entrance of
the tent to meet them, and bowed to the ground. My lord, he said, I beg you, if
I find favour with you, kindly do not pass your servant by. A little water shall
be brought; you shall wash your feet and lie down under the tree. Let me fetch
a little bread and you shall refresh yourselves before going further. That is
why you have come in your servants direction. They replied, Do as you say. Abraham
hastened to the tent to find Sarah. Hurry, he said, knead three bushels of flour
and make loaves. Then running to the cattle Abraham took a fine and tender calf
and gave it to the servant, who hurried to prepare it. Then taking cream, milk
and the calf he had prepared, he laid all before them, and they ate while he remained
standing near them under the tree. Where is your wife Sarah? they asked him. She
is in the tent, he replied. Then his guest said, I shall visit you again next
year without fail, and your wife will then have a son.
Second
Reading Colossians
1:24-28
It makes me happy to suffer for you, as I am suffering now, and in
my own body to do what I can to make up all that has still to be undergone by
Christ for the sake of his body, the Church. I became the servant of the Church
when God made me responsible for delivering God's message to you, the message
which was a mystery hidden for generations and centuries and has now been revealed
to his saints. It was God's purpose to reveal it to them and to show all the rich
glory of this mystery to pagans. The mystery is Christ among you, your hope of
glory: this is the Christ we proclaim, this is the wisdom in which we thoroughly
train everyone and instruct everyone, to make them all perfect in Christ.
Gospel
Luke 10:38-42
Jesus
came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had
a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord's feet and listened to him speaking.
Now Martha who was distracted with all the serving said, "Lord, do you not
care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell
her to help me." But the Lord answered: "Martha, Martha," he said,
"you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed
only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part; it is not to be taken from
her.".
