HOSPITAL
CHAPLAINCY
If a member of your family or a friend is sick, please let us know and give
us the details. Deacon Bill Corbett (01292 521208, 07904 248948, Rev.BillCorbett@btinternet.com)
is the chaplain to Crosshouse Hospital and is assisted by the priest on call
each week.
FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per month.
We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can manage
a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing Order
would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift Aid
form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £548.60 and the Maintenance
Fund collection to £213.60 - thanks.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the box
provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required on the
Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed is
that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church. We do
the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every £1
you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation. There
is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
PARISH RECORDS
Our parish records are covered by the Data Protection Act and are for parish
use only. We cannot give out phone numbers or addresses. Please help us to keep
our records up to date using the cards provided.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Margaret Munn at 5.30 pm and Patricia Milligan
at 10.30 am.
ALTAR SERVERS
Next weekend's altar servers are Group 1 at 5.30 pm
and Group 4 at 10.30 am.
MUSIC MINISTRY
Next weekend's musicians at the Vigil Mass are the choir.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy restarts on 7 January 2018.
SUNDAY TEAS
There
will be no tea or coffee after this weekend's Sunday Mass.
REQUIEM MASS
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Alexander Bartley, who died recently
aged 95 years. His Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 20 December at 10.30 am
and will be followed by interment at Ardrossan Cemetery. May he rest in peace
and rise in glory!
BLESSED ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS SEASON!
I just love this season, for it is a time of joy, giving, and family! Today
we begin the beautiful custom of the 'O Antiphons' from 17 December until Christmas
Eve. Every day Christ receives another 'title' in Latin - King, Key, Wisdom
et cetera. The Benedictine monks arranged these antiphons with a definite purpose.
If one starts with the last title and takes the first letter of each one - Emmanuel,
Rex, Oriens, Clavis, Radix, Adonai, Sapientia - the Latin words 'ero cras' are
formed, meaning, 'Tomorrow, I will come.' Therefore, the Lord Jesus, whose coming
we have prepared for in Advent and whom we have addressed in these seven Messianic
titles, now speaks to us, 'Tomorrow, I will come.'
ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS
Advent
and Christmas is a time of great joy. One of the secrets of joy is realising
just how much we are indeed loved by the God of the Universe. This is what is
to give us joy this season and all days - we are loved! So, getting into the
Christmas Spirit is not just about going out and buying lots of presents. It
is about receiving the greatest present - God's love! After we have received
the gift of God's love, this gift is one that cannot be kept - we need to give
it away! The more we give the gift of God's love, the more we receive it. The
presents we buy are to be symbols of God's love and ours. So, when you are buying
gifts this season, always keep in mind that these gifts are symbols. Symbols
of love! So please, do not get lost in the buying - get lost in the loving!
This season is also about family. Father Stan Fortuna, a priest of the Friars
of the Renewal, says the word family means F-A-M-I-L-Y - Forget-About-Me-I-Love-You!
Let us really try to live this during this special season. This is not just
your family at home but everyone in your everyday life! We belong to each other
and we need to support and love one another and invite others to become part
of our family! Only five days left until the Birthday of the Saviour!
THOUGHTS FOR ADVENT
Perhaps we never realised that we would live in a time when what should be the
celebration of the birth of the Saviour of the world would become so commercialised
that the only acceptable practice of Christmas is one that has effectively returned
it to its pagan pretensions, complete with self-absorption, consumerism, materialism
and actual loneliness. What is the best way for us Catholics to turn back this
tide and bring joy and reverence back to what could be envisioned as the 'holy
day' season? To help others 'find the perfect gift'by taking Advent more seriously
ourselves. To celebrate Advent is to say that we have hope to bring. As we await
the birth of the Christ-Child, the Incarnation of God himself, we can only likewise
hope that the example that we share is one that inspires the world to slow down,
look around, and realise that it is in Christ's entry into the world that we
encounter enduring peace - 'Peace I leave with you - my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled
or afraid. John 14:27. taken

A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS GIFT
It
is the day before Christmas, nineteen forty-nine. A young father had just discovered
that his five-year-old daughter had wasted an entire roll of rather expensive
gold wrapping paper. His daughter had crudely wrapped the paper around a small
cardboard box that she had placed behind the family's modest little Christmas
tree. Money was very tight at the time and that made the matter seem even worse.
The father called the little girl into the room and began to scold her for having
wasted the paper on the box. The little girl entered the room and began slowly
approaching her father who was standing there holding the small crudely wrapped
box. Her father began his verbal reprimand as he watched his daughter run to
him. As the father continued with his scolding the little girl quickly approached
and placed her tiny hands on the box her father was holding. Then the little
girl tenderly said"This is for you, daddy!" The father's anger was
quickly defused and the matter was dropped as the box was placed back beneath
the Christmas tree. However, on Christmas Day the father's anger flared again
when he opened the box and found it was empty. He again spoke to his daughter
in a harsh manner saying "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone
a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?" The little
girl had tears in her eyes as she looked upwards at her father. Then the little
girl said"Oh, daddy, it's not empty! I blew kisses into it until it was
full." The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around
his little girl and he begged his daughter's forgiveness for his outburst of
anger and for his thoughtlessness. The father always kept that little box beside
his bed afterwards. When times were hard or difficult, he would often remember
the box full of kisses and could recognise a feeling of deep comfort and love.
Often he would look at that small crudely wrapped golden box and again hear
the same precious words that his daughter had spoken to him on that Christmas
day. "This is for you, daddy!" Indeed, this was a very special Christmas
gift. Very soon, each one of us will receive a special Christmas Gift - the
Saviour of the world!
PLACES TO BE OR NOT TO BE ...
I have been in many places but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't
go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito.
I hear no one recognises you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't
have an airport - you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there,
thanks to my friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions but
you have to jump and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also
been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go and I try not to visit there too often.
I've been in Flexible but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes
I'm in Capable and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favourite
places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps
up the old heart! At my age, I need all the stimuli I can get! And sometimes
I think I am in Vincible but life shows me I am not!
NEW PARISH PRIEST WARRANTY …
A priest once wrote in his Bulletin last year:
Manufacturer's Notice - It has come to our attention that the priest you received
was shipped with a slight defect - he is not psychic. This defect necessitates
certain special procedures to ensure optimum performance of your unit.
1
|
It
is necessary to inform him of any members who are hospitalised. |
2
|
It
is necessary to inform him of any members who should be added to the 'housebound'
list. |
3
|
If
someone you know is sick or otherwise in need of the priest's prayers,
or if you know of someone who should be included in the prayers at Sunday
Mass, the priest must be told or he won't know. |
4
|
If
you are in need of a pastoral visit or some other service from the priest,
you will get best results if you ask him. |
We
regret any inconvenience this may cause. If these special procedures create
an undue burden, please feel free to send the unit back, and one with full
psychic abilities will be shipped as soon as one becomes available.
