SUNDAY TEAS
The usual tea and coffee will not be served after the 10.30am Mass
next Sunday. Instead there will be the Pentecost Brunch.
PENTECOST BRUNCH
There will be a Sunday brunch after Mass next Sunday 20 May from 11.30am to
1.00pm in the Parish Centre. There will be soup, rolls and sausage and bacon
along with scones and cakes. All are welcome.
NEXT SUNDAY - PENTECOST
As recorded in the New Testament in Acts 2, it was on the fiftieth day after
Easter that the Apostles were praying together with Mary and the Holy Spirit
descended on them in the form of tongues of fire. They received the 'gift
of tongues, - the ability to speak in other languages - and immediately began
to preach about Jesus Christ. Pentecost became not only a commemoration of
the Holy Spirit's visit but also the birth of the Church. It was on roughly
this same day, centuries earlier, that Moses received the Ten Commandments
on Mount Sinai. Pentecost is also called White Sunday, or Whit-Sunday, after
the white garments worn on Pentecost by the newly baptised.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Please remember in your prayers the twenty-eight children who will receive
the Sacrament of First Holy Communion today, Sunday 13 May at the 10.30am
Mass. We pray that all our children have a day of grace and joy.
REQUIEM MASS FOR IAIN CURRIE
Please pray for the Repose of the Soul of Iain Currie. His Requiem Mass on
Tuesday 15 May at 10.00am will be followed by his cremation at Holmsford Bridge
Crematorium, Dreghorn.
HOLY HOURS DURING THE EASTER SEASON IN SAINT MARY'S DEANERY
There have been and will be Holy Hour services, arranged by the Spirituality
Group, in the Churches of Saint Mary's Deanery throughout April and May. These
provide an opportunity to listen and to contemplate what God is saying to
us. The last service takes place at Saint
Mary's Church, Irvine on Sunday 13 May at 3.00pm. On Pentecost Sunday,
20 May, people will be asked to meet at Saint
Mary's Church, Saltcoats and walk to Saint Peter's, Ardrossan
for a Service. Details will follow. Please refer any queries on this to Agnes
Burt on 01294 833048.
DUET OF LIFE
Wishing
to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took her boy
to a Paderewski concert. After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend
in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her. Seizing the opportunity
to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the little boy rose and eventually
explored his way through a door marked 'No Admittance'. When the house lights
dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat
and discovered that the child was missing. Suddenly, the curtains parted and
spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway piano on stage. In horror, the
mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. At that moment, the great piano master made
his entrance, quickly moved to the piano and whispered in the boy's ear "Don't
Quit. Keep playing." Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with
his left hand and began filling in a bass part. Soon his right arm reached
around to the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato. Together,
the old master and the young novice transformed a frightening situation into
a wonderfully creative experience. The audience was mesmerised.
That's
the way it is with God. What we can accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy.
We try our best but the results aren't exactly graceful flowing music. But
with the hand of the Master, our life's work truly can be beautiful. Next
time you set out to accomplish great feats, listen carefully. You can hear
the voice of the Master whispering in your ear "Don't Quit. Keep playing".
Feel His loving arms around you. Know that His strong hands are there helping
you turn your feeble attempts into true masterpieces. Remember, God doesn't
call the equipped. He equips the called - and He'll always be there to love
and guide you on to great things.
JUST FOR A LAUGH…
Two
Ardrossan guys are walking when one notices a sign on a Catholic Church that
says 'Convert to Catholicism and we'll give you £100." The one
says to the other "Should we do it?" The other says "No!! Are
you crazy?" The first guy replies "Hey, a hundred pounds is a hundred
pounds... I'm gonna do it." So he walks in to the Church and a little
while later, he walks back out. The friend says "Well, did you get the
money?" He replies "Oh that's all you people think about, isn't
it?"
