PRAYER FOR TOURISTS
Heavenly Father, look down on us your humble, obedient tourist servants who are doomed to travel this earth, taking photographs, sending postcards, buying souvenirs. We beseech you, O Lord, to see that our plane is not delayed, our luggage is not lost and our overweight baggage goes unnoticed. Protect us from surly and unscrupulous taxi drivers, avaricious porters and unlicensed English speaking guides. Give us this day divine guidance in the selection of our hotels, that we may find our reservations honoured, our rooms made up, breakfast included and hot water running in the taps. Lead us, dear Lord, to good, inexpensive restaurants where the food is superb, the waiters friendly and the wine included in the price of the meal. Make the locals love us for who we are and not for what we can contribute to their worldly goods. Grant us the strength to visit the museums, the cathedrals, the palaces, national parks, listed as 'must see' in our guide books. And if by chance we skip an historic monument to take a nap after lunch, have mercy on us, for the flesh is weak. Dear God, keep our wives from shopping sprees and protect them from 'bargains' they do not need or cannot afford. Lead them not into temptation for they know not what they do. Almighty Father, keep our husbands from looking at foreign women and remind them that they are on a 'fixed' menu and not á la carte. Save them from making fools of themselves in cafes and nightclubs. Above all, please do not forgive them their trespasses for they know exactly what they do. And when our trip is over and we return to our loved ones, grant us the favour of finding someone who will look at our holiday photos and listen to our stories so our lives as tourists will not have been in vain. Amen.

JUST FOR A LAUGH …
A priest decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the priest reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol - dead. The second worm in cigarette smoke - dead. The third worm in chocolate syrup - dead. The fourth worm in good clean soil - alive. So the priest asked the congregation "What did you learn from this demonstration?" Maxine, who was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said "As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!" That pretty much ended the sermon!

POPE FRANCIS'S PRAYER INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER
Pope Francis's prayer intention for November is for those in Service of Peace - that the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conflict.

TEN COUNTRIES AS WORST RELIGIOUS-FREEDOM OFFENDERS
The countries of Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were labelled as Countries of Particular Concern (CPC). In addition, Pakistan was placed on a Special Watch List which is a new category below that of CPC. A country is labeled as a CPC after it engages in 'systemic, ongoing and egregious' violations of religious liberty. The Special Watch List is for countries that 'engage in or tolerate severe violations' of religious liberty but not to the extent of a CPC.

FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1 you donate.

COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £598.95 and the Maintenance Fund collection to £268.60 - thanks.

SUNDAY TEAS
Tea and coffee will be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish Centre by Sadie's, Marie's and Phyllis's team.

GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.

VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Holy Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.

ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores, Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday teas.
