FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA
First Saturday devotions will take place on the first Saturday of every month
after the 10.00am Holy Mass. The devotions take about half an hour. All are
welcome!
STATIONS OF THE CROSS FOR LENT
The Stations of the Cross are a fourteen-step devotion that commemorates Jesus
Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The fourteen devotions, or stations,
focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation.
The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the 'pilgrim' moves
from station to station. As last year, we will pray the Stations every Tuesday
of Lent, starting on Tuesday 12 March before Mass at 9.30am.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Please remember that we have adoration after Mass every Friday followed by
a simple Benediction at 10.45am and finishing with refreshments in the Snug
after Benediction. It is a great resolution for Lent to spend some quality
time with Christ in the miracle of the Eucharist.
THE BIG ROCKS
A
while back, I was reading about an expert on subject of time management. One
day, this expert was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive
home a point, used an illustration I'm sure those students will never forget.
After I share it with you, you'll never forget it either. As this man stood
in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said "Okay, time
for a quiz." Then he pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed mason jar
and set it on a table in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized
rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar. When the jar
was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is
this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." Then he
said "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket
of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces
of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks. Then
he smiled and asked the group once more "Is the jar full?" By this
time the class was on to him. "Probably not" one of them answered.
"Good!" he replied. And he reached under the table and brought out
a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all the
spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question
"Is this jar full?" "No!" the class shouted. Once again
he said "Good!" Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to
pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked up at the
class and asked "What is the point of this illustration?" One eager
beaver raised his hand and said "The point is, no matter how full your
schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some more things into
it!" "No" the speaker replied "that's not the point. The
truth this illustration teaches us is - If you don't put the big rocks in
first, you'll never get them in at all." What are the 'big rocks' in
your life? Time with your loved ones? Your faith and your God, your Church,
your education, prayer? A cause? Remember to put these big rocks in first!
LENTEN
PRAYER FOR TRANSFORMATION
Loving Father, I invite you into my life today and make myself available to
you. Help me to become the best version of myself by seeking your will and
becoming a living example of your love in the world. Open my heart to the
areas of my life that need to change in order for me to carry out the mission
and experience the joy you have imagined for my life. Inspire me to live the
Catholic faith in ways that are dynamic and engaging. Show me how to best
get involved in the life of my parish. Make our community hungry for best
practices and continuous learning. Give me courage when I am afraid, hope
when I am discouraged, and clarity in times of decision. Teach me to enjoy
uncertainty and lead your Church to become all you imagined it would be for
the people of our times. Amen.
THANKS
Beryl Meechan and family would like to thank Father
Duncan and friends for all the kind sympathy, Masses,
Mass Cards and support at the very sad loss of Beryl's son, James Meechan.
Holy Mass will be offered for everyone and for Sister Maria Ursula.
BURNS PASCOLI SUPPER
Thank you to all who attended and helped at the recent Burns Pascoli Supper.
The proceeds from the evening of £972 have been sent to various charities.
WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE TRANSFIGURATION?
The Transfiguration was a special event in which God allowed certain apostles
to have a privileged spiritual experience that was meant to strengthen their
faith for the challenges they would later endure. But it was only a temporary
event. It was not meant to be permanent. In the same way, at certain times
in this life, God may give certain members of the faithful - not all of the
faithful, all the time - special experiences of his grace that strengthen
their faith. We should welcome these experiences for the graces they are,
but we should not expect them to continue indefinitely, nor should we be afraid
or resentful when they cease. They may have been meant only as momentary glimpses
of the joy of heaven to sustain us as we face the challenges of this life,
to help strengthen us on the road that will, ultimately, bring us into the
infinite and endless joy of heaven.
OASIS DAY FOR PARISH READERS
A special day is planned for all our Parish Readers on Saturday 23 March 2019
from 12 noon until around 4.00pm. The Day for Eucharistic Ministers was a
great success last year and we thought it would be good to have a Day for
Readers. Please put the date firmly in your diary as your participation is
really important. Leaflets are available in the Sacristy for Readers with
all the Information. Thanks!
SAINT PETER'S LENTEN RETREAT
Our Lenten Retreat this year will focus on the call to holiness that Pope
Francis renewed recently in his Exhortation 'Rejoice and be glad. We will
look at five aspects to this call to holiness during the five Sundays of Lent
this year. A booklet, costing £1, is available at the stall to accompany
the Retreat.
AYRSHIRE CURIA OF THE LEGION OF MARY
The Acies Ceremony will be held on Sunday 24 March at 3.00pm in Saint Winin's
Church, Kilwinning. Rosary Legion Prayers will be followed by our consecration
to Our Lady and Benediction. Refreshments will be available in the Church
hall after the ceremony. All active and auxiliary members and friends of Legion
of Mary are welcome!
THE RIGHT SIDE TOUR - JUSTICE, TRUTH, HISTORY
Be on the right side! The Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child is
organising a tour of Scotland informing on and resisting the campaign for
the extension and decriminalisation of abortion. The meeting is on Thursday
28 March at 7.00pm in Saint Winin's Hall, Kilwinning.
SCOTTISH CATHOLIC INTERNATIONAL AID FUND (SCIAF) LENTEN APPEAL 2019
If you didn't manage to get the Wee Box from SCIAF last weekend, they are
still available at the back of the Church. Please make sure you get one and
hand it in after Lent. This is a great way of fulfilling the call to almsgiving
in this special season. Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest growing
populations in the world. Uganda gained independence from the United Kingdom
on 9 October 1962. However, the legacy of war and a high rate of HIV and AIDS
has left many orphans and a generation of young people without hope, trapped
in extreme poverty. Please remember to pick up your Wee Box this weekend.
Together, we can end poverty.
NEW EMAIL ADDRESSES
To comply with the recent changes to Data Protection Act, Saint Peter's has
two new email addresses. If you are contacting the Parish Office, please use
Ardrossan@GallowayDiocese.org.uk. If you wish to contact Father
Duncan personally, then use Duncan.McVicar@GallowayDiocese.org.uk
- thanks!
MUSIC FOR SUNDAY MASS
We are looking for parishioners who are able and willing to operate the recorded
music on the Digital Piano in the choir loft in Church on Sunday mornings.
You would go on a rota and be asked, more or less, every three weeks. Training
will be given. We would really appreciate any help you could give. Senior
pupils would also be welcome. Please speak to Father Duncan or get in touch
with the Parish Office on 464063. Thank you!
OUR CLEANERS NEED SOME HELP
We are asking able-bodied parishioners - men and women - to help to keep God's
House clean and tidy and to support our wonderful team of cleaners. If you
can help in any way, please let us know. Thank you! Cleaning is usually on
Tuesdays after Holy Mass.

FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per
month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can
manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing
Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift
Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £626.40 and the Maintenance
Fund collection to £247.06 - thanks.
SUNDAY TEAS
Tea and coffee will not
be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish Centre.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the
box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required
on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed
is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church.
We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every
£1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation.
There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental
Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Holy Mass, tea, coffee
cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend
Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing
sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores,
Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday
teas.

and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
