SATAN'S CAR BOOT SALE
Once
upon a time, Satan was having a car boot sale. There, standing in little groups
were all of his bright, shiny trinkets. Here were tools that make it easy
to tear others down for use as stepping stones - and over there were some
lenses for magnifying one's own importance, which, if you looked through them
the other way, you could also use to belittle others, or even one's self.
Against the wall was the usual assortment of gardening implements guaranteed
to help your pride grow by leaps and bounds - the rake of scorn, the shovel
of jealousy for digging a pit for your neighbour, the tools of gossip and
backbiting, of selfishness and apathy. All of these were pleasing to the eye
and came complete with fabulous promises and guarantees of prosperity. Prices,
of course, were steep but not to worry! Free credit was extended to one and
all. "Take it home, use it, and you won't have to pay until later!"
old Satan cried as he hawked his wares. Business was brisk. One visitor, as
he browsed, noticed two well worn and very plain tools standing in one corner
- practically unnoticed. Not being nearly as tempting as the other items,
he found it curious that these two tools had price tags higher than any other.
When he asked why, Satan just laughed and said, "Well, that's because
I use them so much. If they weren't so plain looking, people might see them
for what they were." Satan pointed to the two tools, saying "You
see, that one's Doubt and that one's Discouragement - and those will work
when nothing else will - believe me!"
JUST FOR A LAUGH
In Ardrossan, a Protestant man married a Catholic woman at Saint Peter's.
After their marriage, he decided to convert to the Catholic Church so he went
to the priest and took instructions and was later baptised Catholic. He had
one problem however. He couldn't get it into his skull that he was a Catholic
man and no longer a Protestant. This became such a problem that he returned
to the priest and asked for some advice. The priest told him that if he was
to repeat the phrase "I'm a Catholic, not a Protestant" enough times
the idea might penetrate. The man left mumbling to himself "I'm a Catholic,
not a Protestant. I'm a Catholic, not a Protestant." The next Friday
the priest decided to visit the newlyweds. He knocked on the door and was
greeted by the wife. When he stepped in, he smelled something that should
not be in a Catholic's home on a Friday. He asked the wife where her husband
was, and she replied that he was in the kitchen. The priest walked into the
kitchen and saw the man pouring thick brown gravy on a thick hunk of roast
beef. Aghast, the priest was about to explode when he heard the man mumble,
"You're a trout, not a cow. You're a trout, not a cow."
WE ARE IN THE EASTER SEASON!
Easter lasts for fifty days until Pentecost - so Happy Easter still! May the
triumph of the Resurrection fill you with hope and joy this Easter season
and always. Thank you for journeying together through the Lenten desert and
into the Easter season. I pray that focusing on the suffering and death of
Our Lord Jesus has prepared you to embrace the Good News of his resurrection.
Now that Lent is over, you might be wondering, what's next? How do I maintain
the spiritual momentum I developed during Lent? I'd like to suggest a few
practical tips. First, consider grounding your life more concretely in the
Eucharist, the source and summit of the Christian life on Sundays and during
the week if you can. Secondly, prepare yourself for Mass by participating
in the Sacrament of Reconciliation - every Saturday; commit to attending one
extra Mass each week; or cultivate a deeper appreciation and reverence for
the Blessed Sacrament by setting aside time for Eucharistic Adoration - every
Friday at Saint Peter's. Third, make a sincere commitment to daily prayer
and never miss listening and talking to God even when you are tired and busy.
And finally, reach out to someone and share your faith with them; in this
way you support the Parish in proclaiming the Gospel to everyone.

NEW
PARISH WEBSITE
The new website for Saint Peter's is almost ready for launching. A lot of
hard work has been put into getting it read - so watch this space! It is coming
very soon! If anyone would like to be involved in our new website, please
have a word with Father Duncan or George McGrattan. Thank you!
NEW EMAIL ADDRESSES
To comply with the recent changes to Data Protection Act, Saint Peter's has
two new email addresses. If you are contacting the Parish Office, please use
Ardrossan@GallowayDiocese.org.uk. If you wish to contact Father
Duncan personally, then use Duncan.McVicar@GallowayDiocese.org.uk
- thanks!
HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY
If a member of your family or a friend is sick, please let us know and give
us the details. Deacon Bill Corbett (01292 521208, 07904 248948, Rev.BillCorbett@btinternet.com)

FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per
month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can
manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing
Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift
Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £969.40 and the and
the Maintenance Fund collection to £453.12 - thanks very much. Sincere
thanks, too, for the Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land. The Parish
raised £338.54. Thank you for your generosity!
OFFERTORY
ENVELOPES
Please collect your new Offertory envelopes at Betty's stall today. If you
would like to use the envelopes for your contributions to the parish, please
speak to Margaret or George. Thanks!
SUNDAY
TEAS
Tea and coffee will be
served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish Centre by Jennifer's
and Niamh's team.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the
box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required
on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed
is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church.
We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every
£1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation.
There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental

Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
