CROWNING OF OUR BLESSED LADY
On the first Sunday of May, we crown the Mother of God and ask her, in a special
way, to intercede for all our families and loved ones, especially anyone who
is sick, in hospital or has a heavy cross to bear at this time. We welcome
Luigi Corvi to our Mass this Sunday. He will sing Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
Our sincere congratulations go to Jennifer Hamilton and Michael Diamond who
will be married this coming Saturday at 1.00pm. We wish them a love for a
lifetime.
A TABLE FOR TWO
He
sits by himself at a table for two. The uniformed waiter returns to his side
and asks, "Would you like to go ahead and order, sir?" The man has,
after all, been waiting since seven o'clock - almost half an hour. "No,
thank you," the man smiles. "I'll wait for her a while longer. How
about some more coffee?" "Certainly, sir." The man sits, his
clear blue eyes gazing straight through the flowered centrepiece. He fingers
his napkin, allowing the sounds of light chatter, tinkling silverware and
mellow music to fill his mind. He is dressed in sport coat and tie. His dark
brown hair is neatly combed but one stray lock insists on dropping to his
forehead. He is dressed up enough to make a companion feel important, respected,
loved. Yet he is not so formal as to make one uncomfortable. It seems that
he has taken every precaution to make others feel at ease with him. Still,
he sits alone. The waiter returns to fill the man's coffee cup. "Is there
anything else I can get for you, sir?" "No, thank you." The
waiter remains standing at the table. Something tugs at his curiosity. "I
don't mean to pry, but ..." His voice trails off. This line of conversation
could jeopardise his tip. "Go ahead" the man encourages. His is
strong, yet sensitive, inviting conversation. "Why do you bother waiting
for her?" the waiter finally blurts out. This man has been at the restaurant
other evenings, always patiently alone. Says the man quietly, "Because
she needs me." "Are you sure?" "Yes." "Well,
sir, no offence, but assuming that she needs you, she sure isn't acting much
like it. She's stood you up three times just this week." The man winces,
and looks down at the table. "Yes, I know." "Then why do you
still come here and wait?" "Cassie said that she would be here."
"She's said that before," the waiter protests. "I wouldn't
put up with it. Why do you?" Now the man looks up, smiles at the waiter,
and says simply, "Because I love her." The clock says nine-thirty
when the waiter returns to the man's table. "Is there anything I can
get for you?" The still empty chair stabs at the man. "No, I think
that will be all for tonight. May I pay please?" "Yes, sir."
When the waiter leaves, the man picks up the money. He pulls out his wallet
and sighs. He has enough money to have given Cassie a feast. But he takes
out only enough to pay for his five cups of coffee and the tip. Why do you
do this, Cassie, his mind cries as he gets up from the table. He stops at
the front and makes reservations for tomorrow. Maybe Cassie will be able to
make it, he thinks. "Seven o'clock tomorrow for party of two?" the
hostess confirms. "That's right" the man replies. "Do you think
she'll come?" asks the hostess. She doesn't mean to be rude, but she
has watched the man many times alone at his table for two. "Someday,
yes. And I will be waiting for her." The man buttons his overcoat and
walks out of the restaurant, alone. His shoulders are hunched, but through
the windows the hostess can only guess whether they are hunched against the
wind or against the man's hurt. As the man turns toward home, Cassie turns
into bed. She is tired after an evening out with friends. As she reaches toward
her night stand to set the alarm, she sees the note that she scribbled to
herself last night. '7.00' it says. 'Spend some time in prayer.' Oh no, she
thinks. She forgot again. She feels a twinge of guilt, but quickly pushes
it aside. She needed that time with her friends. And now she needs her sleep.
She can pray tomorrow night. Jesus will forgive her. And she's sure he doesn't
mind.
JUST FOR A LAUGH
At what time of day was Adam created? - a little before Eve.
Why are atoms Catholic? - because they have mass.
Why didn't they play cards on the Ark? - because Noah was always standing
on the deck.

Did Eve ever have a date with Adam? - No, just an apple.

went down to the bank of the Nile and drew out a little prophet.
Why couldn't Jonah trust the ocean? - he just knew there was something fishy
about it.

What did Adam say the day before Christmas? - it's Christmas, Eve!
How do you make Holy Water? - take some regular water and boil the devil out
of it.
How long did Cain hate his brother? - as long as he was Abel.
What's the best way to study the Bible? - You Luke into it.
SOME
EASTER THOUGHTS
We all realise that Lent, the season of penance we just completed, takes forty
days. Our children who give up sweets wonder why it takes so long! It's meant
to be lengthy since penance takes a while. Well, now the joy of Easter takes
over and that goes for fifty days! Celebration is as important as preparation!
The Easter season is as important as Lent! So, the purple is gone, the ashes
are gone, the Alleluia is back, as are the songs of rejoicing. The Gloria
returns to Mass and in the Gospel Jesus speaks of life eternal, not dying.
We're doused with Easter baptismal water at Mass. We rejoice with all our
new Catholics in Scotland, more than 250 this year, who came into the Church.
Alleluia! What hope they give us, enthusiastically and freely entering the
Church with all her challenges and pain. Our children will receive our Lord
in first Holy Communion this May. Couples will come together in marriage.
Our young people graduate filled with gratitude and hope. The lives of the
faithful are celebrated in the Requiem Mass. The new life of Jesus, risen
from the dead, resounds in His Church! As nature explodes into the new life
of spring, the supernatural, the life of grace in our souls, and in our Church,
radiates throughout the faithful. Let the bells ring, the choirs sing, because
the sacraments are in abundance. A world fatigued and discouraged by violence,
fires, crime, a bitter political climate, a cheapening of life, takes a deep
breath, and whispers an act of faith that good, not bad; love, not indifference;
light, not darkness; hope, not despair; life, not death, has the last word.
To celebrate that takes fifty days from Easter to Pentecost! It really takes
a lifetime - come to think about it, an eternal lifetime! A blessed Easter
still to one and all!
GROW IN DEVOTION TO MARY THIS MAY
In this month of May, the Family of the Church honours Mary as the Queen of
Heaven. She is the Mother that Jesus gave to us on the cross. But how often
do you talk to her like she's your mother? How often do you remember the great
power given to her by her Son? The Church dedicates this month to our Blessed
Mother, the sweet and merciful woman who agreed to become the Mother to the
Son of God while still a teenager. What better time is there than this to
develop your relationship with her? This May, pray more to Our Lady. Learn
more about her, consecrate yourself to Jesus through her, pray the Rosary,
teach your children or grandchildren about her.
COACH TO SCHOENSTATT SHRINE FOR MAY DAY
Last year, we organised a coach from Saint Peter's to attend the May Day Mass
at the Schoenstatt Shrine. This year it will be on Sunday 19 May, leaving
Saint Peter's at 1.00pm and returning at 6.30pm. Please add your name to the
list at the back of the Church. Thank you.
THANKS FOR TOILETRIES
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society of the Church
of Saint Mary Star of the Sea, Largs would like to thank all the parishioners
of Saint Peter in Chains, Ardrossan for their magnificent donation of toiletries
for the Ozanam Centre. It was very much appreciated by those who use the Centre.

CHURCHES' HOMELESS ACTION NORTH AYRSHIRE (CHANA)
The need for help for homeless people continues with over seventy people presenting
as homeless each month in North Ayrshire. To give practical help, local churches
have undertaken to provide specific cleaning materials and toiletries. Saint
Peter's has been allocated shower gel and all-purpose cleaner. Please put
any donations in the CHANA basket in the foyer of the church. Thank you for
your ongoing generosity. For further information on the work of CHANA, please
call 07585 665751.
PILGRIMAGE IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SAINT PAUL
The date of our proposed diocesan pilgrimage to Turkey has been postponed
from October 2019 to around April or May 2020 as many people were asking for
more time to commit. The estimated cost of the pilgrimage will now be £1000
based on two people sharing a room. Flights will be direct from Glasgow, accommodation
will be on a half-board basis in four star hotels, and a full spiritual programme
will be provided. If you would like to express an interest in taking part
in this pilgrimage, please contact Father David Borland by email on David.Borland@GallowayDiocese.org.uk
or call him on 01292 263488. Please do so by 1 August 2019 when a decision
will be made as to whether the pilgrimage will proceed.
1ST SAINT PETER'S RAINBOWS AND 5TH SAINT PETER'S BROWNIES

FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per
month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can
manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing
Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift
Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £630.85 and the and
the Maintenance Fund collection to £286.15 - thanks very much.

would like to use the envelopes for your contributions to the parish, please
speak to Margaret or George. Thanks!
SUNDAY
TEAS
Tea and coffee will NOT
be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish Centre.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the
box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required
on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed
is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church.
We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every
£1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation.
There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental

Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
