CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PRIMARY FOUR CHILDREN
We ask for God's special grace and blessing on our Primary 4 children who
will be receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion
next year. Today, as they are presented to the parish, we will give them a
special cross for their homes as a sign of their continuing journey of faith.
Please keep the children and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY
Our new session has begun for the pre-fives, Primary 1 and 2 and Primary 3
groups of our Children's Liturgy Programme during 10.30am Mass. All children
aged three to Primary 3 are welcome to come through and join us. Next week's
helpers are Jacqueline Waugh for the pre-fives, Linda Martin for Primaries
1, 2 and 3 and Andrena Hughes and Frances Gemmell for Primary 4.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY VOLUNTEERS
As we begin the new session of our Children's Liturgy Programme we would like
to take a moment to thank all of our volunteers that have given of their time
over the past years to help build and run our fantastic programme. We are

OF BAPTISM
We welcome into the Family of the Church Eva Rose Murray Taylor who will be
baptised this coming Saturday at 11.00am. Congratulations to her parents and
Godparents.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
• It is one thing to pray, it is another to live what you discover in
prayer. May God grant you wisdom enough to pray and strength enough to live
what you discover in prayer.
• When you go through deep waters, I will be with you - Isiah 43:2.
THERMOMETER OR THERMOSTAT?
Have
you heard the phrase "Don't be a thermometer - be a thermostat"?
A thermometer reads the temperature of the room and responds to it. A thermostat
sets the temperature. Are you setting the spiritual temperature of the room?
Or do you find yourself constantly responding to how your kids are acting
- and are you letting that determine the kind of parent you will be? Are you
basing the kind of spouse you are today on your husband or wife's mood? Are
you responsive to the virtue - or lack thereof - in your workplace and letting
that determine how you interact with the people around you? As we look ahead
to the new school year, God is sending each of us out to serve in our homes
and our communities. As Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians "Let
the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus ... [He] emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave" (2:5-7). Walk into a room and be a blessing.
Think about how you can increase the joy in every situation. Be responsive
to God, instead of those around you and start thinking about how you can be
a joy and a blessing to your family, friends, and co-workers.
FROM
THE MOUTHS OF CHILDREN
A grandmother recently went to dinner at a restaurant with her son and two
grandchildren. They were sitting at the table waiting for their food when
five-year-old Clare asked "Grandma, what was your mum like? "She
was a very wonderful lady, Clare", said the grandmother. "Your Daddy
knew her, too, before she died." The five-year-old looked at her Dad
and said "Did you, Dad?" Dad answered "Yes I did, Clare. She
was a very nice lady." "What was your Dad like, Grandma?" asked
Clare. Grandmother responded "He was nice, too, but I didn't know him
very well because he died when I was only ten years old." Clare's Dad
chimed in "Isn't it great that Grandma's Mum did such a good job taking
care of Grandma even though her Dad wasn't with them?" Clare didn't say
anything else after that. The next day, Sunday, Clare was just talking with
her Dad. She said "Dad, will people be able to see each other in heaven?"
Her Dad said "Sure they will, Clare". Then she asked "Dad,
I guess, since you're older than me, you'll die first." Her Dad responded
"Yes, I guess I will, Clare." Then she said "I'll really miss
you, Dad." By this time Dad was having trouble keeping the tears from
his eyes. After a moment of silence, Clare said "Dad, will you please
tell Jesus I love Him when you get there?" Dad responded with tears flowing
down his face "Sure, Clare, I'll be glad to tell Him."
JUST FOR A LAUGH …
• A primary school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with
her five- and six-year olds. After explaining the commandment to honour thy
Father and thy Mother, she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches
us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one
little boy - the oldest of a family - answered "Thou shall not kill."

People are funny. They want the front of the
bus, the middle of the road and the back of the Church.
GUNS OR PEOPLE
uns or People is an event, including music and time for reflection, to raise
awareness of the consequences of using armaments to resolve conflict and the
alternatives. Reverend Kathy Galloway of The Iona Community is the guest speaker
and Arthur West will explain the work of Peace Education Scotland. It takes
place in Saint
John’s Church, Stevenston on
Sunday 6 October 3.00pm. It is expected to last for about forty-five minutes
and there is a cup of tea at the end. The event is organised by the Outreach
to the Poor Group of Embracing Change. Everyone is welcome and encouraged
to attend.
50/50 CLUB

IN AND AROUND THE CHURCH
Great work has been done in the choir loft to organise the microphone cables
and make them safer. The doors leading to the Parish Centre from the Church
have been adjusted and now close without banging. The Architect's Report and
detailed drawings of the Church have been submitted for tender and we hope
that the financing will be successful. Many, many thanks for all the hard
work, time and effort.
PARISH STEWARDSHIP
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £681.74 and the Maintenance
Fund collection to £463.77 - thanks very much. The Organ Fund stands
at £6912.95 - many thanks for all your support and generosity!
MARY'S MEALS BACKPACK APPEAL
We were overwhelmed by your generosity to our last appeal. We have recently
sent 150 filled backpacks to Malawi, making a running total of 2593. If you
wish to contribute to this on-going charity, please put any items you wish
to donate into the basket in the Church porch. As a reminder, here is a list
of the items needed - backpacks, jotters, coloured pencils, pencil cases,
rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, tennis
balls, cotton shorts, T-shirts, skirts, dresses and flip-flops all for use
by children aged five to twelve years. Mary's

Tea and coffee will be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish
Centre by Sharon McLaughlin's team.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental
Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30am Holy Mass, tea, coffee
cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend
Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
