A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK (Mark 4:35-41)
With the coming of evening, Jesus said to his disciples "Let us cross over to the other side." And leaving the crowd behind, they took him, just as he was, in the boat and there were other boats with him. Then it began to blow a gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almost swamped. But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep. They woke him and said to him "Master, do you not care? We are going down!" And he woke up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea "Quiet now! Be calm!" And the wind dropped and all was calm again. Then he said to them "Why are you so frightened? How is it that you have no faith?" They were filled with awe and said to one another "Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him."
The Gospel of the Lord.

THE LORD'S DAY AT HOME
If you are housebound or self-isolating at this time, please use these prayers to unite yourself with the worship of the Universal Church, and your own parish, this Sunday. If alone, read or say these prayers quietly to yourself. If with another, or in a family, someone should read the Gospel and others respond. It might be suitable to find a special, quiet place at home for your Sunday prayers.

FEED YOUR SOUL - RENEWING OUR PARISH COMMUNITIES
Pope Saint John Paul II wrote 'the definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ. Only he can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity.' Catechesis is oriented toward forming persons who get to know Jesus Christ and his Gospel of liberating salvation ever better, who live a profound encounter with him and who choose his own way of life and his very sentiments, striving to realise, in the situations in which we live, the mission of Christ, which is the proclamation of the kingdom of God.

REQUIEM MASS FOR MILLIE FERGUSON
Please pray for the Repose of the Soul of Millie Ferguson who died on Wednesday 9 June 2021 aged 97 years. Her Requiem Mass, which will be live-streamed on Tuesday 22 June at 10.00am, will be followed by her interment at Ardrossan Cemetery. May she rest in peace and rise in glory!

IN AND AROUND SAINT PETER'S
A lot of work has been done in the grounds with the treatment of weeds and the planting of new hardy plants at the front door. The door at the back of the Church from the car park, now unused, has been repaired and repainted. Two new table-shelves have been placed in the choir loft to accommodate the camera technology et cetera. Sincere thanks for the hard work.

SAINT PETER'S PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
The Parish Pastoral Council have been invited to attend a meeting on Thursday 24 June at 7.00pm in the Lesser Hall of the Parish Centre. Council members are asked to contact the parish office to confirm their attendance.

IN AND AROUND SAINT BRIDE'S
The Church painting continued last week with the bulk of the work completed now. Some doors et cetera will be tackled this week. There is an attempt to repair a severely damaged monstrance donated by parishioners many years ago. We managed to locate a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the left side of the Church. Sincere thanks for the hard work.

SAINT BRIDE'S 100 CLUB WINNERS
The winners of the last two 100 Club draws are Janet Ferguson and Peter Ross. Each will win £26.50 - well done! The new season starts on 1 July. The subscription for the new year is still only £12 and is due on 3 July. We are so grateful to those members who have supported the Club over the years. We would be delighted to welcome new members to help boost the numbers and funds. Half of the money goes to our Church funds and half to our members by monthly draws. Envelopes will be available from Tuesday 29 June. Thank you.

SAINT BRIDE'S - THE FUTURE AHEAD FOR OUR PARISH
We are all hoping and praying that we shall soon be returning to Church in a more liberal way to nurture our faith and share that faith with our friends in West Kilbride. In order that we are prepared in some way for this development, I would like to invite you to come along to what will then be our lovely newly painted church on Monday 21 June at 7.00pm for a discussion till no later than 9.00 I do hope you will be able to attend and really look forward to seeing you then. Thank you.

PETER'S PENCE There will be a special collection next weekend, 26 and 27 June for Peter's Pence.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

INNER HEALING OF WOUNDS - HURTS
Inner healing is asking Jesus to go back to the time when we were wounded - ( that now we can become free. This implies two steps - to bring to light those things which have wounded us, we need to ask oneself certain questions which generally will reveal the basic wounds - hurts - for which we must pray.
1  When did all this begin? Was it a happy childhood? Many of the more profound wounds - hurts - go back to the first two or three years of one's life, or better said, to the time in which we were more vulnerable and less capable of defending ourselves. But it is also true that some have received their wounds - hurts - later on in school.
2  What caused the wound - hurt? Often, the answer to the first question already reveals the reasons for the old wounds - hurts. Many of them stem from a rejection or a broken relationship. Particularly important are our relationships with our parents. If the mother did not caress the child sufficiently, if the father would return home from work tired and would hardly speak to the child or punished him or her severely, if there were too many children for a sickly mother and she did not have time to show them affection or if one of the parents died when the child was very young. All of these painful experiences leave wounds (hurts) which deeply affect the basic emotions of the person.
Pray to the Lord that He heal us of these wounds - hurts. If we are able to remember how and why everything began, then we ask Jesus to accompany us into the past. He, as Lord of the times, is capable of doing what we cannot do. He can heal these wounds - hurts - from the past which still cause us suffering, sometimes immediately. After having prayed for the healing of the wound - hurt - negative aspect of the healing, we can ask the Lord to fill, in a positive way, our life with all that which we were missing. Given that we have a very profound need for love, the conclusion of the prayer for inner healing is, generally, to fill all the empty confines of our heart with the love of God. Inner healing renders a great deal of peace and joy to the person. It is a shame that so few understand and practice this type of prayer. Thus, speaking simply, we can say that we place the purification of the sub-conscience into the hands of the Lord, asking him to cure the wounds - hurts.

COME BACK TO MASS
The past fifteen months have been a time of crisis and deep challenge for our country and they have been a particular trial for the Catholics. During this terrible Covid period, many of us have been compelled to fast from attendance at Mass and the reception of the Eucharist. Now that the doors of our Churches are commencing to open wide, I would like to urge every Catholic reading these words - Come back to Mass! Why is the Mass of such central importance? The Second Vatican Council eloquently teaches that the Eucharist is the 'source and summit of the Christian life' - which is to say, that from which authentic Christianity comes and toward which it tends. It is the alpha and the omega of the spiritual life, both the path and the goal of Christian discipleship. The Church Fathers consistently taught that the Eucharist is sustenance for eternal life. They meant that in the measure that we internalise the Body and Blood of Jesus, we are readied for life with him in the next world. Thomas Aquinas said that all of the other sacraments contain the virtus Christi - the power of Christ - but that the Eucharist contains ipse Christus - Christ himself - and this would help to explain why Saint Thomas could never make it through the Mass without shedding copious tears. It is precisely at the Mass that we are privileged to receive this incomparable gift. It is precisely at the Mass that we take in this indispensable sustenance. Without it, we starve to death spiritually. A key feature of the Mass is precisely our coming together as a community. As we speak, pray, sing and respond together, we realise our identity as the Mystical Body of Jesus. During the liturgy, the priest functions in persona Christi - in the very person of Christ - and the baptised in attendance join themselves symbolically to Christ the head and together offer worship to the Father. If I might signal the importance of the Mass in a more negative manner, the Church has consistently taught that baptised Catholics are morally obligated to attend Mass on Sunday and that the conscious missing of Mass, in the absence of a valid excuse, is mortally sinful. I understand that this language makes many people today uncomfortable but it shouldn't, for it is perfectly congruent with everything we have said about the Mass to this point. If the Eucharistic liturgy is, in fact, the source and summit of the Christian life, the privileged encounter with Jesus Christ, the moment when the Mystical Body most fully expresses itself, the setting for the reception of the bread of heaven-then we are indeed putting ourselves, spiritually speaking, in mortal danger when we actively stay away from it. Just as a physician might observe that you are endangering your life by eating fatty foods, smoking, and refraining from exercise, so a doctor of the soul will tell you that abstaining from the Mass is compromising your spiritual health. Come back to Mass! And might I suggest that you bring someone with you, someone who has been away too long or has perhaps been lulled into complacency during Covid? Let your own Eucharistic hunger awaken an evangelical impulse in you. Bring in people from the highways and byways. Invite your co-workers and family members. Wake up the kids on Sunday morning. Turn off your computers. Come back to Mass!

THE FENCE MAN
There was a large group of people gathered. On one side of the group stood a man, Jesus. On the other side stood another, Satan. Separating them was a fence running through the group. The scene set, both Jesus and Satan began calling to people in the group. One by one, each having made up his or her own mind, they went to either Jesus or Satan. This kept going for a time. Soon enough, Jesus had gathered around him a group of people from the larger crowd as did Satan. One man joined neither group. He climbed the fence that was there and sat on it. Jesus and his people left and disappeared and so too did Satan and his people. The man on the fence sat alone. As this man sat, Satan came back, looking for something which he appeared to have lost. The man said "Have you lost something?" Satan looked straight at him and replied "No, but there you are. Come with me." The man said "But I sat on the fence. I chose neither you nor Jesus." Satan said "That's okay. I own the fence." 'Whoever is not with me is against me.' - Jesus in Matthew 12:30

JUST FOR A LAUGH ...
A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, Saint Peter meets him at the pearly gates. Saint Peter says "Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in." "Okay" the man says "I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart." "That's wonderful" says Saint Peter "that's worth three points!" "Three points?" he says. "Well, I attended Church all my life and supported its ministry with my donations and support." "Terrific!" says Saint Peter "that's certainly worth a point." "One point? Golly. How about this - I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans." "Fantastic, that's good for two more points," he says. "Two points!!" the man cries "At this rate the only way I get into heaven is by the grace of God!" "Come on in!"
