A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK (Mark 6:30-34)
The apostles re-joined Jesus and told him all they had done and taught. Then
he said to them "You must come away to some lonely place all by yourselves
and rest for a while" for there were so many coming and going that the
apostles had no time even to eat. So they went off in a boat to a lonely place
where they could be by themselves. But people saw them going and many could
guess where and from every town they all hurried to the place on foot and
reached it before them. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd and he
took pity on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd and he set
himself to teach them at some length.
The Gospel of the Lord.
REFLECTION
You know that saying 'There's no rest for the wicked.' Actually that is so
untrue - the wicked are very good at making sure they have plenty of rest
for themselves! Normally it is the good, the kind, the selfless and the generous
who have no time to rest because there is always some other kind thing to
do, always someone else to help. This is exactly what we see in the Gospel.
Jesus cannot rest while there are lost sheep wandering around! He recognises
that they are missing something in life, something that only He can give and
so he sets himself to 'revive their drooping spirits' by his generous teaching.
This says three things to us. Firstly and most importantly, that Jesus will
always watch out for us and will always offer us himself if we are 'lost'.
Secondly, we should try to be as generous as he is. When we see people who
are lost or afraid or hurting, it is our job - as His disciples - to do what
we can, even if that means setting ourselves to work at some length! And thirdly,
we should also find and create moments of rest for ourselves and each other
so that we can enjoy the 'restful waters' our Good Shepherd leads us to.
THE
LORD'S DAY AT HOME
If you are housebound or self-isolating at this time, please use these prayers
to unite yourself with the worship of the Universal Church, and your own parish,
this Sunday. If alone, read or say these prayers quietly to yourself. If with
another, or in a family, someone should read the Gospel and others respond.
It might be suitable to find a special, quiet place at home for your Sunday
prayers.

SINGING
IS GOOD FOR YOU!
We are looking forward to the next few weeks when we can hopefully sing
in Church again. Not only is singing a great way to raise money, research
shows that it's also good for you. Professor Graham Welch, Chair of Music
Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, has studied
developmental and medical aspects of singing for thirty years says "The
health benefits of singing are both physical and psychological. Singing
has physical benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation
in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body,
even when sitting. Singing has psychological benefits because of its normally
positive effect in reducing stress levels through the action of the endocrine
system which is linked to our sense of emotional well-being. Psychological
benefits are also evident when people sing together as well as alone because
of the increased sense of community, belonging and shared endeavour."
And just think - you are getting all this for free in our Churches!
PRAYER
FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar.
I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into
my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually
into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
FEED
YOUR SOUL - RENEWING OUR PARISH COMMUNITIES
It is necessary to teach the believer to pray with Jesus Christ and like
him, initiating the believer into blessing and adoration, petition, intercession,
thanksgiving and praise. There are several well-established means - the
prayerful reading of sacred scripture, in particular through the liturgy
of the hours and lectio divina, the Jesus Prayer, the veneration of the
Blessed Virgin Mary through practices of the Rosary, processions et cetera.
The faith is professed, celebrated, expressed and lived above all in community.
We should cultivate a spirituality of communion. This makes one able to
see the light of the Trinity reflected in the face of one's sister or brother
as well, feeling through the profound unity of the Body of Christ that they
are part of oneself; sharing their joys and sorrows in order to perceive
their desires; taking care of their needs; offering them a true and profound
friendship. Looking above all at what is positive in them in order to cherish
them as a gift from God helps one to reject the selfish temptations that
lead to competition, careerism, distrust and jealousy.
TERRORISTS IN CHURCHES
Latest news reports are that five terrorist cell groups have been operating
in certain Churches. Church security identifies these as Bin Sleepin, Bin
Arguin, Bin Fightin, Bin Complainin and Bin Missin. Their leader, Osama
Bin Lucifer, trained these groups to destroy the Body of Christ. The plan
is to come into the Church disguised as Catholics and to work within the
Church to discourage, disrupt, and destroy the priests and the Churches.
A tiny cell known by the name Bin Workin is actually the only effective
counter terrorism force in the Church today. This group appears to be very
weak. It is easy to detect because it is the only group that is active in
service to Christ. Unlike the true terrorist cells, the Bin Workin team
does not blend in with whoever and whatever comes along. Bin Workin visibly
does whatever is needed to uplift and encourage the Body of Christ. We have
noticed that the Bin Workin cell group has different characteristics than
the others. They have Bin Watchin, Bin Waitin, Bin Prayin and Bin Longin
for the Master, Jesus Christ, to return. Which cell group do you belong
to? In 2 Thessalonians 3:11, it is written 'For we hear that there are some,
which walk among you disorderly, working not at all but are busybodies'
and in Mark 13:32-3 'But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not
the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father, take ye
heed, watch and pray for ye know not when that time is.' These same groups
have been detected in other denominations. The Office of Home Church Security
is coordinating its efforts with the Bin Workin group to expose the activities
of the five terrorist cells now known to be active throughout many Catholic
Churches. Report all sightings to proper authorities. Written

FOOD FOR THOUGHT - IT'S IN THE VALLEYS THAT I GROW
Sometimes
life seems hard to bear, full of sorrow, trouble and woe
It's then I have to remember that it's in the valleys I grow
If
I always stayed on the mountain top and never experienced pain
I
would never appreciate God's love and would be living in vain
I
have so much to learn and my growth is very slow
Sometimes I need the mountain tops but it's in the valleys I grow
I
do not always understand why things happen as they do
But
I am very sure of one thing, my Lord will see me through
My
little valleys are nothing when I picture Christ on the cross
He went through the valley of death, his victory was Satan's loss
Forgive
me Lord, for complaining when I'm feeling so very low
Just
give me a gentle reminder that it's in the valleys I grow
Continue
to strengthen me, Lord and use my life each day
To share your love with others and help them find their way
Thank
you for valleys, Lord for this one thing I know
The
mountain tops are glorious but it's in the valleys I grow!
Have a blessed day! Jane

JUST
FOR A LAUGH ...
A travel agent looked up from his desk to see an old lady and an old gentleman
peering in the shop window at the posters showing the glamorous destinations
around the world. The agent had a good week and the dejected couple looking
in the window gave him a rare feeling of generosity. He called them into
his shop, "I know that on your pension you could never hope to have
a holiday so I am sending you off to a fabulous resort at my expense and
I won't take no for an answer." He took them inside and asked his secretary
to write two flight tickets and book a room in a five star hotel. Then,
as can be expected, they gladly accepted and were off! About a month later
the little old lady came in to his shop. "And how did you like your
holiday?" he asked eagerly. "The flight was exciting and the room
was lovely" she said. "I've come to thank you but one thing puzzled
me. Who was that old man I had to share the room with?
Actually some of us ask the same question every morning!!
