FATHER GERARD MAGEE

Gerard Magee was born in Ardrossan in 1955.  His parents were William Magee (1918-1988) and his wife Mary McNamara (1919-1997), known as May.  His siblings are Catherine known as Cassie, William (1950-2002) known as Billy, David and Joseph.

Gerry was educated at Saint Peter’s Primary and Secondary Schools, Ardrossan and Saint John’s Seminary, Wonersh, Guildford, Surrey.  He trained as a chef at the Turnberry Hotel in Ayrshire.

Gerry was ordained as Dom Joseph Magee for the Order of Saint Benedict (OSB) in the School Chapel of Saint Augustine's College, Westgate on Sea, Kent, England on 1 March 1986 by Maurice Taylor, Bishop of Galloway.

Gerry transferred to the Diocese of Galloway in 1989 and initially served as a curate at the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Saltcoats.  This was followed by service in Saint Ann’s Church, Mossblown, Saint Paul’s Church, Ayr and Holy Trinity Church, Lockerbie before being appointed Parish Priest of Saint Paul’s Church, Hurlford.  On 23 November 2004, he became Parish Priest of Saint Winin’s Church, Kilwinning.

On 1 March 2011, Father Gerry celebrated twenty-five years of priesthood with a Mass in Saint Winin's.
