There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
on Monday from 2.00 to 2.30 pm and on Thursday from 10.15 am to 6.45 pm.

The Charasmatic Prayer Group will meet in the Convent on Thursday
at 8.00 pm.

Saint Mungo's Choir will sing at the
6.30 pm Mass next Sunday.

Vocations Awareness Week runs from 21 to 27 September. Please pray for vocations
to the priesthood and religious life.
SCHOOL
BOARDS
School Boards continue to have a growing importance in the life of
a school and it is important that parents play an active role in their formation.
An active School Board enhances the life of the school. In Saint Andrew's Academy
and Saint Peter's Primary School, there are three vacancies and I would engourage
you to consider standing for election. Nomination forms are available from each
school and must be completed and returned by 3.00 pm on 30 September. Saint Andrew's
Academy School Board will meet in the Academy on Tuesday at 7.45 pm. Saint Peter's
School Board will meet in the school on Tuesday at 7.45 pm.

IGNATIAN
PRAYER GROUP
The next meeting of the Ignatian Prayer Group will take the form of a social evening
on Tuesday 30 September in the Presbytery at 7.45 pm. The main purpose is to celebrate
the fact that the Group has just completed the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius.
YOUTH MUSIC GROUP
A meeting to organise a Parish Youth Music Group will be
held in the Presbytery on Monday 29 September at 7.45 pm. If you are interested,
please come along.
BAPTISM
We welcome Carter Lothian into our Christian community. Please pray for him and

of Saint Vincent de Paul.
IF
ONE OF YOUR FAMILY LAPSES FROM THE FAITH
Don't feel guilty. Nothing will be
gained by examining the type of Christian upbringing that you gave to your child.
You did your best according to your own abilities and insights. When your children
became adults they became responsible for their own decisions and actions.
Don't
argue. Arguments never brought any one back to the Faith. Arguments will only
lead to unpleasantness, anger and resentment. Make clear your own firm convictions,
quietly and unemotionally. Your children are bound to know that you are disappointed.
Do
love them. Love them as you have always loved and cared for them. This continuing
love will be a sign of the continuing love that God has for each one of us despite
our infidelity. There must be no hint of rejection.
Do stay close to God. Don't
blame God for this problem. Many positive things might emerge because of this
difficulty. Give witness to your own life as a Catholic. Pray for your children
and especially for those who seem to have rejected God. It may be that they are
rejecting the practice of Faith but not God himself.
Do leave a door open.
A lapsed Catholic may want to return but finds it difficult to come back. A time
of mission or retreat may be the time for gentle encouragement. Try to preserve
your young person's pride when they come back and don't make a great fuss if they
suddenly come along to Mass one Sunday. Just thank God.
WEEKLY CONFESSION?
When
the Pope visited Ireland it was, to be sure, a fine occasion for many a reconciliation
and confession. Mike, being from a small island off the coast, didn't get to the
mainland often and consequently not to confession often. However, he happened
to be there at the time of the papal visit and, with so many others in the spirit
of the event, went to confession. The priest urged him to go to confession more
often, but Mike pleaded his remoteness on the island. But the priest persisted,
reminding Mike that they now have those little planes what shuttle back and forth
weekly, so there was no longer an excuse. "So" queried the priest, "how
about the aeroplane, Mike?" Mike responded, "Nope. Too expensive for
venial sins and too risky for mortal ones!".
