repaid to the Diocese for the building loan and levy.
MISSION
SUNDAY COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Missions amounted to £978.00
- many thanks.
BANKER'S
ORDERS
Paying your collection by monthly or quarterly banker's order makes
money handling much safer. Banker's Order forms are available in the porch.
CONGRATULATIONS
TO SAINT MARY'S
Congratulations to our neighbouring parish, Saint
Mary's, Saltcoats on the splendid job of redesigning the sanctuary area of
the church and the new middle aisle. It certainly improves the layout of the church.
THANKS
Julia Paterson thanks all who sent Mass Cards, sympathy cards and flowers and
to those who offered words of comfort on the recent death of her son, John. It
was all very much appreciated.
PARISH SOCIAL
The next Parish Social
will take place on Saturday 19 November at 8.00 pm in the Parish Centre. There
will be music, a quiz, a light supper, raffle and so on. Tickets, costing £2.50,
are available from Kate or Donna.
FEAST
OF ALL SAINTS
Tuesday is the feast of All Saints and is a Holyday of Obligation.
FEAST OF ALL SOULS
Wednesday is the Feast of All Souls. Mass will be
celebrated at 10.00 am and 7.00 pm.
CHILDREN'S READINGS AND THE SACRAMENTAL
PROGRAMME
Will the parent volunteers who offered to help with the preparation
of the children at the recent parents' meetings please return the completed Disclosure
Scotland and Reference forms as soon as possible in order that the Sunday preparation
may begin?
ASSOCIATION OF THE PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH
Envelopes
are available at the stall for ordinary and family members of the Association
of the Propagation of the Faith.
THE CHILDREN'S READINGS AND THE SACRAMENTAL
PROGRAMME
We are compelled to wait till we have Disclosure Scotland documents
in place for everyone who helps. The delay is an embarrassment and a loss for
the children so if you have a document at home awaiting return could you bring
or send it immediately? If your child would benefit from the very worthwhile programme,
then could you volunteer your services now and the Disclosure Scotland forms will
be given or sent to you. Men make good catechists too!
'THE
SUNDAY TOILET PARADE'
I fully understand that children will always need to
go out to the toilet during Mass but I would very much appreciate if the fairly
constant parade could at least stop for the Consecration, the most sacred part
of our Sunday Mass. In a case of necessity, I will be happy to pause until they
leave.
CEMETERY
MASS
The annual Mass for the Deceased will be celebrated in Ardrossan
Cemetery on Sunday 6 November at 2.00 pm.
ANNUAL
MASS FOR THE BEREAVED
The annual Mass for the bereaved will be celebrated
on Wednesday 16 November at 7.00 pm. Refreshments will be served in the Parish
Centre after Mass.
NOVEMBER LISTS
November Lists are available at the stall. Please take one.
BOOK
OF THE DEAD
During the month of November, the Book of the Dead be available
in front of the Blessed Sacrament Altar for you to write the names
of family and friends.
EUCHARISTIC
MINISTERS
Could Father
Matt have a word with eucharistic ministers after whichever Mass you are at
either this weekend or next, please?

READINGS
The readings for this weekend's Masses are shown below in English. They are available
in eleven other languages
including French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish by clicking on this
link.
First Reading Malachi
1:14 - 2:2.8-10
I
am a great king, says the Lord of hosts, and my name is feared throughout the
nations. And now, priests, this warning is for you. If you do not listen, if you
do not find it in your heart to glorify my name, says the Lord of hosts, I will
send the curse on you and curse your very blessing. You have strayed from the
way; you have caused many to stumble by your teaching. You have destroyed the
covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts. And so I in my turn have made you contemptible
and vile in the eyes of the whole people in repayment for the way you have not
kept to my paths but have shown partiality in your administration. Have we not
all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why, then, do we break faith with one
another, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?
Second Reading Thessalonians
2:7-9.13
Like a mother feeding and looking after her own children, we felt
so devoted and protective towards you, and had come to love you so much, that
we were eager to hand over to you not only the Good News but our whole lives as
well. Let me remind you, brothers, how hard we used to work, slaving night and
day so as not to be a burden on any one of you while we were proclaiming God's
Good News to you. Another reason why we constantly thank God for you is that as
soon as you heard the message that we brought you as God's message, you accepted
it for what it really is, God's message and not some human thinking; and it is
still a living power among you who believe it.
Gospel Matthew
23:1-12
Addressing the people and his disciples Jesus said, "The scribes
and the Pharisees occupy the chair of Moses. You must therefore do what they tell
you and listen to what they say; but do not be guided by what they do: since they
do not practise what they preach. They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's
shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them? Not they! Everything they
do is done to attract attention, like wearing broader phylacteries and longer
tassels, like wanting to take the place of honour at banquets and the front seats
in the synagogues, being greeted obsequiously in the market squares and having
people call them Rabbi. You, however, must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbi,
since you have only one Master, and you are all brothers. You must call no one
on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor
must you allow yourselves to be called teachers, for you have only one Teacher,
the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Anyone who exalts himself
will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will be exalted.".
