SUNDAY COLLECTION
Last weekend's
collection amounted to £669.82. We are grateful for your generous support
of the Parish. Banker's Orders amount to an average of £4400 per month.
BANKER'S
ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists
us with the safe handling of cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay
tax, then every £1 you give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would
you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £306.81 - many
thanks.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Katrina Pollock at 5.30
pm, Michael Clarke at 10.00 am and Harry Sammons and Marade Griffin at 12.00 noon.
THE BULLETIN
The bulletin is our way of keeping you up-to-date with what
is happening in the Parish. Suggestions for its layout and content are always
welcome so that you have as much news as possible. Notices for inclusion must
be here by Thursday.
MASS LEAFLETS
Mass Leaflets are our way of providing
you with the Sunday Readings and the music for Mass. You are welcome to take one
home or to the housebound. If you are not doing so, we would be grateful if you
would return the Mass leaflets to the boxes for use at a later Mass. Please try
not to leave bulletins and leaflets on the seat. It makes you and the Church look
untidy. Thanks.
THREE
TOWNS CHURCHES CRUISE
The Charity Evening Cruise will take place on Wednesday
30 July. All the churches in Ardrossan are combining for the cruise. Profits go
the Vine Trust for work in South America. The cruise leaves Ardrossan Harbour
at 6.15 pm and should return around 9.15 pm. Tickets are £18 and £8.
All tickets are sold.
SUMMER HOLIDAY
During July and August we are unable
to get as much help with the Sunday Mass as we are used to. We will try to ensure
the singing, the serving, the Readings and the Eucharistic assistance is as usual
but please bear with us during the holiday period. The Parish Centre is having
some new flooring laid and there is some maintenance work going on. The Children's
Liturgy will resume in August. Visitors are most welcome among us. Unless otherwise
specified, the second collection each weekend is to reduce the debt on the Parish
Centre.
FATHER
JOHN
A short meeting to agree a constitution and to form a committee
to raise funds for Father
John will be held at 7 pm on Monday 14 July the Ardrossan Youth Club hut in
Stanley Road. We hope to raise money to send to Father
John in December. Any one interested will be most welcome. We have an offer
of £50 for the fund if we can find a volunteer or two to spread red chips
for a parishioner. Full details can be obtained from the Parish office on 464063.
Lilian's afternoon tea made £70 on the wettest afternoon so far. Grant Mitchell
made £145 in his sponsored walk, bringing the total sponsorship for the
walk organised by Marlene Crighton to £450. Maria Hilferty raised £130
by asking you to guess the dog's birthday.
WORLD
YOUTH DAY 2008
Our Prayers go with Father Jim Hayes, Father
Stephen McGrattan and the twenty-five young pilgrims who are off this week
to the World Youth Day in
Sydney, Australia. They have saved and worked hard to make it possible and there
has been a lot of help from the Diocese, our Parish community and individuals.
May God keep them all safe and may His grace come to them as they gather with
Pope Benedict and young Catholics from every part of the world to celebrate their
Faith. The theme is 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you
and you will be My witnesses.'. World Youth Day is in fact a couple of weeks of
preparation, celebration and reflection as Pope Benedict teaches the Young Church
the message of Jesus.
IGNATIAN
PRAYER GROUP
The Ignatian Prayer Group will meet again after the summer holiday.
HUMAN EMBRYOLOGY AND FERTILISATION BILL
If we do nothing, we cannot blame
anybody else for a horrendous Human Embryology and Fertilisation Bill becoming
law. Write and ask our Member of Parliament, Katy Clark to vote to require 'informed
consent' with which a woman gets all the facts about abortion to be written into
the bill on abortion and to vote to have a pro-life amendment to the bill. The
legislation comes before Parliament in early July.
PARISH
VOLUNTEERS
Bishop Cunningham will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving for all
the hard work and dedication given to the Church by all volunteers in parishes.
The Mass will be celebrated in Saint Margaret's Cathedral, Ayr on Sunday 14 September
at 3.30 pm. A good attendance would be greatly appreciated as this is the first
time a Mass of thanksgiving has been held. Notices for numbers will be displayed
in August to ascertain whether a bus should be ordered.
THREE
YEARS OF SAINT PETER'S WEBSITE
Saint Peter's website was launched three years
ago today on 13 July 2005. It has 860 pages, 537 pictures, 214 bulletins between
1960 and 2008, 5940 links, some audio and video clips, been viewed in 39 countries
and had 30500 visits. The site contains many articles on past and present spiritual
and community life in Saint Peter's. Canon
Matt and the website author are very grateful to those who have accessed the
site, lent photographs, passed on stories, identified errors, made suggestions
and expressed compliments. The aims of the site are to make parishioners aware
of current events and record our history. If you can help with this project, please
contact WebsiteAuthor@SaintPeterinChains.net.
HELP
REQUIRED WITH THE NURSERY
The Nursery outside wall and the boundary wall with
the adjacent property need pointing. Any help will be gratefully received.
MARY'S
MEALS - PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
Mary's
Meals works with some of the poorest people
in the third world countries such as Malawi, Liberia, Peru, Ecuador, India and
Uganda, amongst others. Mary's
Meals offers
help by collecting unwanted goods. They then send the goods donated as aid or
raise funds through shops for overseas projects. The
annual uplift visit will be on Sunday 7 September. From Thursday 4 to Saturday
6 September, your donations can be left in the foyer of the Parish Centre but
not at other times as we need to use the Centre and the foyer. If you are unable
to bring your own goods, please contact Frank Coulter. Mary's
Meals will
also sell raffle tickets. Photographs of recent years' visits by Scottish
International Relief are on the Pictures
page.
BEREAVED
BY SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP
A new support group for those who have been bereaved
by suicide meets in the Daniel Coffey Suite, North West Area Centre, Western Road,
Kilmarnock, KA13 1 NQ on the last Thursday of every month from 6.30 to 8.30 pm.
The next meeting is on 24 July. More information can be obtained by telephoning
0141 959 1387.
THROUGHCARE
TEAM
North Ayrshire Council Social Services Throughcare Team is looking to
recruit supported carers for young people leaving care. An allowance and ongoing
support are available for anyone able to offer a place within their home for a
young person. If you are interested please contact Tom Cullen on 01294 602527.
THE
STALL
Sadie Welsh who volunteered to help Father
William McBurnie, our Parish Priest from 1952 to 1953 in the stall on a temporary
basis has decided to hang up her keys. We thank her very much for so many years
of dedication. This means that we are in need of a volunteer willing to assist
at the stall before and after 12 noon Mass on a Sunday. Wages are the same as
arranged by Father
William McBurnie and are maintained below the rate of inflation. By coincidence,
work is ongoing to extend the stall and make it more secure.
PROTECTION
OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in
Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each
individual person within God's purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the
welfare of people of all ages who are involved in whatever capacity with the Church
and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is the responsibility
of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members, to work together
to prevent the physical,
sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
