CANON
MATT IN ROME
Canon
Matt will be in Rome from Monday 11 to Wednesday 20 October with
Cardinal O’Brien. The Cardinal has been Archbishop of Saint Andrew’s and Edinburgh
for twenty-five years and Canon Matt went to Rome with him to receive his
appointment. The trip is also to celebrate the Canon’s seventieth birthday.

is in residence. Monsignor Peter Magee
will be here this weekend. I know you will make him welcome. The Parish Office
will be staffed as usual during office hours.
LEGION OF MARY
The Legion
of Mary meets
weekly and prays for the parish. The members visit the sick and house-bound.
The Legion can always do with new male and female members giving as much or
as little time as they can afford. Speak to Canon
Matt or any of the members.
AUTUMN EVENTS AT SMITHSTONE HOUSE
Details of spirituality evenings, scripture study afternoons and so on at
Smithstone House, Kilwinning are on the notice board.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
HILLHOUSE CARE - INNOCENTS
Any baby items, prams, cots, clothing for children from birth to 16 years
or any goods that can be sold in the charity shop would be gratefully accepted
by Hillhouse Care. A box is available at the stall for small items and toiletries
for baby and mother. Please contact Frank or Josephine Coulter or phone 602179
for more information or uplift of goods. Thank you.
50/50 CLUB
The 50/50 Club is an important fund raiser for the parish. If you would like

L’OSSERVATORE ROMANO
L'Osservatore Romano, the official newspaper of Pope Benedict XVI has a weekly
edition in English and is available by post. The annual subscription is 80
euros. Order forms are available from the stall.

Gabriel
is now fit enough to travel and is going home to Uganda on Monday evening
for some weeks to see family and friends. We wish him a safe and restful time.
GALLOWAY LOURDES
HOSPITALITÉ

by coming to Saint John’s Hall in Stevenston on Friday 12 November at 7.30
pm. A new wedding and function band will be playing as well as a supporting
duo. There will be a bar and a raffle and supper will be served. The tickets

SISTER ANNE-MARIE QUIGG
Sister Anne-Marie has been elected to the General Council of her Order and
will move from her present post in Dubai to Rome shortly. We offer her our
heartiest congratulations. Sister asks the prayers of all of you in her new
responsibilities.
SPARE WOOL
The Knitting Group at Barony Saint John’s Church meets on Wednesday mornings
from 10.30am to 12 noon. The group knits for various good causes and ask if
anyone has any spare wool. The odd ball is often useful. For more information,

SAINT VINCENT DE
PAUL SOCIETY
The Saint Vincent
de Paul Society meets weekly, assists with the passkeeping and
collecting duties in Church and runs a telephone helpline for those in financial
difficulty. We are currently seeking new male and female members. You must
be over 18. Please speak to Canon
Matt or any of the members.
A TASTE OF ITALY
A dinner dance - a partnership between the Italian Twinning Group and the
parish - has been arranged for Friday 22 October at 7.30 pm. It also marks
Canon
Matt's seventieth birthday. Details are on the
posters and tickets costing £15 are available from the Parish Office
on 464063. There will be a three course meal and music by Paolo and Angela.
All are welcome, of whatever nationality.
STAMPS FOR SAINT PATRICK’S MISSIONARY SOCIETY
There is a box by the stall door for all your stamps for Saint Patrick's Missionary
Society. The proceeds from the stamps pays the salaries of catechists in various
parts of Africa.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 - MADRID
World Youth Day is an international festival of Catholic faith with Pope Benedict
XVI and thousands of young people from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands
of young people from every part of the world gather to celebrate a Festival
of Faith. Some of us went to Sydney in 2008, some to Cologne in 2005 and some
to Toronto in 2002. The next World Youth Day is nearer home in Madrid, Spain
next year. You must be 16 by 31 December 2011 to be eligible. Full details

McGrattan, the new Diocesan Youth Officer, on 01290 421031.
YOUTH FOR LOURDES
A group of young people from the diocese is travelling to Lourdes to assist
the sick and then having a few days holiday together. The dates are 3 to 13
July 2011. You must be between 16 and 23 in July 2011. The cost is £550.

SAINT
ANNE'S GUILD
Saint
Anne's Guild meets weekly on a Tuesday at 7.00 pm. It is
open to all women in the parish and beyond. Speak to any of the members and
feel free to join any of the meetings.
THE STALL
Please remember to pay a visit to the Stall. It has a nice selection of Christmas
cards and gifts for all occasions.
