Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with the safe handling
of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre amount to an average of
£3800 per month. Forms are available.

NOVEMBER LISTS
During November, Mass will be offered for those whose names you put on the
November Lists. Try to include all family members, friends and so on. God
knows their names and dates but it is good for us to remember. Take the lists
and put them in an envelope and leave it in the basket by the altar or drop
it in the collection bag. A Mass offering may be included but is not necessary.
FEAST OF ALL SAINTS
1 November is the Feast of All Saints. It is not a Holyday of Obligation this
year, falling on a Monday, but is a special feast day of the Church. There
will be Mass at 10 am.
FEAST OF ALL SOULS
2 November is the day we remember all those who have died. There is an extra
Mass in the evening at 7.00 pm. Please remember to pray for all relatives
and friends who have died - our Holy Souls.
HMS DASHER REMEMBRANCE
A remembrance service for the HMS
Dasher crew buried in Ardrossan Cemetery will be held there on Remembrance
Day, Thursday 11 November at 3.00 pm. Everyone is welcome.
REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE AND WREATH LAYING
The annual Remembrance Day Service and wreath laying will be held at 1.00
pm on Sunday 14 November at in the Civic Centre, Glasgow Street.
CEMETERY MASS
The
annual Cemetery Mass will be celebrated in Ardrossan Cemetery on Sunday 14
November at 3.00 pm. The Mass will be offered for those buried there.
COMBONI SISTERS CALENDARS
The Comboni Sisters will sell their 2011 calendars after the Masses on the
weekend of 13 and 14 November.
ITALIAN NIGHT
Many thanks to all who worked hard to make the Italian Night a splendid evening.
PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES 2011
The Parish Lourdes Group hopes to arrange a Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes from
Monday 4 to Friday 8 July 2011. We would be in Lourdes at the same time as
the Galloway Diocesan Pilgrimage. Anyone interested in joining the Pilgrimage
is invited to a meeting in the Parish Centre on Sunday 7 November at 3.00
pm when the detail costs and so on will be available.
CHURCH SECURITY
We had a minor break-in and have had to remove several people who have been
loitering around the Church, Parish Centre and house recently. The break-in
in the church resulted in a five month jail sentence but little damage to
the Church. I am reluctant to keep our Church locked and we are looking at
further closed circuit televisiion and other systems. Security is beginning
to cost us serious money. Repairs and upgrading the parish safe cost almost
£1000 this week). There was no option! Requests - often demands for
money but rarely food - at the house door are rising at an alarming rate.
Current Government policy may well make this worse. I am grateful to the patience
and hard work of the Saint
Vincent de Paul Society members to whom the requests are forwarded on
the helpline.
PARISH CENTRE
Parish Centre costs are outstripping income to a serious extent but we cannot
raise rental prices without making the costs prohibitive to the Nursery and
other groups using the Centre. Fundraising by social events is simply not
working. The support is minimal in terms of the costs and the efforts of a
few. The time may have come when we have to consider the whole use of the
Centre and ask whether or not we as a parish really need or want it. Private
functions, Keep Fit, Zumba ans so on are making good use of the Centre - our
income from such things being minimal - but the overwhelming costs are still
falling on parish income which is more needed for the Church than the Centre.
I cannot stress enough the support our churchgoing parishioners give by way
the second collection and the great support from the Guides and Brownies who
constantly fundraise for us - but too many of our non-churchgoing parishioners
give no support at all but seem happy to use the facilities which we provide.
Join me in praying for a clear way forward. We must find a way. Seasonal opening
and sharing with another church are among suggestions I have had but so far
nothing appeals.
CHERNOBYL CHILDREN'S LIFELINE
A Fashion Show and Sale in Aid of Chernobyl Children's Lifeline will be held
in Saint John's Church Hall, Stevenston on Monday 29 November at 7.30 pm.
There will be a selection of clothes from high street shops such as Next,
Marks and Spencer, Oasis, River Island, House of Fraser at fantastically reduced
prizes. There is no obligation to buy. You may bring your own bottle. Tickets
cost £4 for over 16s only. For tickets, please contact Michael or Lisa

LEGION OF MARY
The Legion
of Mary meets
weekly and prays for the parish. The members visit the sick and house-bound.
The Legion can always do with new male and female members giving as much or
as little time as they can afford. Speak to Canon
Matt or any of the members.
AUTUMN EVENTS AT SMITHSTONE HOUSE
Details of spirituality evenings, scripture study afternoons and so on at
Smithstone House, Kilwinning are on the notice board.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
HILLHOUSE CARE - INNOCENTS
Any baby items, prams, cots, clothing for children from birth to sixteen years
or any goods that can be sold in the charity shop would be gratefully accepted
by Hillhouse Care. A box is available at the stall for small items and toiletries

The Knitting Group at Barony Saint John’s Church meets on Wednesday mornings
from 10.30am to 12 noon. The group knits for various good causes and ask if

SAINT VINCENT DE
PAUL SOCIETY
The Saint Vincent
de Paul Society meets weekly, assists with the passkeeping and
collecting duties in Church and runs a telephone helpline for those in financial
difficulty. We are currently seeking new male and female members. You must
be over 18. Please speak to Canon
Matt or any of the members.
STAMPS FOR SAINT PATRICK’S MISSIONARY SOCIETY
There is a box by the stall door for all your stamps for Saint Patrick's Missionary
Society. The proceeds from the stamps pays the salaries of catechists in various
parts of Africa.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 - MADRID
World Youth Day is an international festival of Catholic faith with Pope Benedict
XVI and thousands of young people from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands
of young people from every part of the world gather to celebrate a Festival
of Faith. Some of us went to Sydney in 2008, some to Cologne in 2005 and some
to Toronto in 2002. The next World Youth Day is nearer home in Madrid, Spain
next year. You must be 16 by 31 December 2011 to be eligible. Full details

YOUTH FOR LOURDES
A group of young people from the diocese is travelling to Lourdes to assist
the sick and then having a few days holiday together. The dates are 3 to 13
July 2011. You must be between 16 and 23 in July 2011. The cost is £550.

ANNE'S GUILD
Saint
Anne's Guild meets weekly on a Tuesday at 7.00 pm. It is
open to all women in the parish and beyond. Speak to any of the members and
feel free to join any of the meetings.

cards and gifts for all occasions.
