LENT
The six weeks of Lent prepare us for Easter. We have begun a period of prayer, penance and almsgiving.
Lent is our 'Desert Experience' - it prepares us for the journey of life, a journey which will end with God. During Lent, do without something you like but don’t need; share something of what you have with the poor at home or abroad; make a little time for prayer each day. Towards the end of Lent, there will be Penance Services in each of our local churches. Make it this year that you celebrate Confession and Forgiveness.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross are prayed on Friday mornings during Lent at 9.40 am.

LENTEN TAIZÉ SERVICES
There will be an opportunity to pray quietly with a few Taizé chants and some readings in Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, South Crescent Road at 7.30 pm each Wednesday evening in Lent starting on 29 February.

50/50 CLUB
To those who have still to renew their membership of the 50/50 Club, our next draw takes place on the last Sunday in February - you need to be in it to win it. Anyone who wishes to join the 50/50 Club can contact Mrs Myriame Sammons or telephone 469006.

CHURCH REPAIRS
Too much rain over the last few months means that the Church doors are damaged. They have been removed and will be back in place shortly. They need time to dry out and shrink back to fit properly. We will try to minimise the inconvenience. We sustained a lot of storm damage to the house, Church, parish centre and to t
he tower in recent storms. We have leaks and more lead was stolen. Repairs are taking some time and most of the cost - around £8000 - will be carried by our insurance company. Like everyone else, we will have to find some of the cost ourselves. Brown envelope donations of £120 bring the total to £1234.50.

USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND OLD MOBILE PHONES
There is now a large green box in the foyer of the Parish Centre and a small box at the stall where you can place all old printer cartridges and mobile phones for us to recycle. Through recycling these we can raise some much needed funds. Thanks.

APOSTLESHIP OF THE SEA - STELLA MARIS
We have forwarded £187 from a collection taken at the funeral of John Collins. When John was at sea he used the Stella Maris facilities around the world.

POSITIVE, INCLUSIVE AND EMPOWERING ARTS - PIE ARTS
Positive Inclusive and Empowering Arts is a community project which provides art, dance, music and drama workshops around North Ayrshire. There are workshops every Friday at Whitlees Community Centre, Ardrossan and for primary 5 to secondary 1 pupils in Park Church Hall, Ardrossan on Thursday evenings - Creative Dance runs from 4.30 to 5.30 pm and Drama from 5.30 to 6.30 pm. The cost is £3 per workshop. There is no need to book. Just come along and be creative! One to one support is available on request. For more information, phone the Project Coordinator, Amy on 07547201240 or visit www.piearts.co.uk.

PATHWAY TO PRAYER 2012
Pathway to Prayer will be held on Saturday 24 March in Saint Meddan’s Church Hall, Troon from 9.45 am to 4.30 pm. It is a day to explore our relationship with God through prayer.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
This year the World Day of Prayer Service is in Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, South Crescent Road, on Friday 2 March at 2.00 pm. Everyone is welcome.

THANKS
Grant Mitchell would like to thank everyone who gave him cards and donations on the occasion of his seventhieth birthday. The donations totalled £230 which will be divided between Saint Peter in Chains Building Fund and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF). Thanks to all who came and made it such a great day. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered for all.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY LENTEN APPEAL FOR TOILETRIES
During the weeks of Lent, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society are once again asking the parishioners
of Saint Peter's to donate both male and female toiletries for use in the Ozanam Centre in Glasgow. The Ozanam Centre assists the homeless, both male and female and so any donations of either male or female toiletries would be very gratefully received. A box will be placed in the Church porch for any donations and we hope that we can rely on your usual very generous support.

WALKING WITH THE POOR
Father Martin Chambers has written a book called Walking With The Poor giving information on his time in South America. The book is on sale at £8 and all proceeds are for his Mission Project.

wedding, wedding anniversary or a special birthday can be ordered at the stall. The cost of the parchment and postage is about £30. Please leave plenty of time.

After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for our Parish Centre debt.

SUNDAY LUNCH FOR SENIOR PARISHIONERS
A Sunday Lunch for senior parishioners is planned - watch this space.

SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
We have chosen three Sundays this year because of the number of children being presented for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. The dates are Sundays 13, 20 and 27 May. There is a list of the three dates at the back of the Church. Please fill in your preferred Sunday. I would hope for about ten children each Sunday because of available room in the Church, but the choice is completely yours as parents and guardians. Please remember that you can alter your choice if the circumstances change. Just be sure to let me know. A few are still to sign up.

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in whatever capacity
with the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
