SUNDAY MASS TIMES
Sunday Mass times
in Saint Peter's are 5.30 pm Vigil and 10.30 am. Sunday
Mass times in other local parishes can be
seen here.
SACRAMENT OF FORGIVENESS
The Sacrament of Forgiveness is available at any suitable time as well as
from 4.30 pm before the Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.
FINANCES
Bankers Orders the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3800 per month.
Every month, we pay off our Parish Centre debt by £3000 and pay a levy
of £1450 to the Diocese. We are grateful for your generous support in
collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would be
a great help. Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with
the safe handling of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre amount
to an average of £3800 per month. Forms are available. Would you consider
remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £534.81 - many thanks.
RETIRED
PRIESTS' FUND COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Retired Priests' Fund
amounted to £444.11
- many thanks.
CHURCH REPAIRS
The help you give for Church repairs by dropping in a white envelope from
time to time is invaluable. We have a continuing task in keeping the Church
wind and watertight. New doors have been installed in the Parish Centre.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These
are available at the back of the Church. If you pay tax, please complete the
new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the
additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital
source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare
that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today?
We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly
collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it.
We simply claim in the income we receive.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Marade Griffin at 5.30
pm and Robert Cooper at 10.30 am.
ALTAR SERVERS
Next weekend's altar servers are CC at 5.30 pm and
Group 3 at 10.30 am.
SUNDAY TEAS
Next Sunday's teas will be served by Sadie Gilmour’s team.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy is celebrated during the Sunday 10.00 am Mass. We have
groups for three to five years, primary 1 and 2 and primary 3. All children
are welcome. The Sacramental Preparation group for Primary 4 children will
begin on Sunday 6 October.
Next week's helpers are Elaine Shaw and Theresa Louden for the pre-fives and
Jacqueline Waugh, Michelle Champion and Kimberley Boyd for primaries 1 to
3.
SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF SAINT PETER'S
Our Church was opened on 2 October 1938 which means it will be seventy-five
years open this October. On Wednesday 2 October, the daily Mass will be celebrated
at 12 noon - the date and time of the first Mass in 1938. Everyone who can
manage is welcome. There will be a cuppa in the Parish Centre after Mass.
There will be a celebration Mass at 5.30 pm on Saturday 5 October and a buffet
supper after Mass with time to chat. The Saint
Vincent de Paul Society will lay on transport for Mass and supper for
those who need it. Please give names to the parish office or to any member
of the Society. You will find an invitation on your seat. Here are a few facts
from our history. Archbishop Donald Mackintosh - ours was a parish of Glasgow
Archdiocese - presided at the opening High Mass at the
principal celebrant of was Father
Archibald McSparran. He was assisted by Father
James McCarroll and Father Robert
McCliment. Fittingly, all three priests were natives of Ardrossan.
Father Fredrick Pirrie preached at Mass. The first children to be Baptised
in the newly-opened Saint Peter’s were Thomas Peter McCann (Tommy) and Henry
Joseph Sammons (Harry) on 13 November 1938. The first Marriages were of Thomas
Bernard Smyth and Elizabeth Veronica Marshall on the day after the official
opening and James Neilson and Jane Holmes Adam on 26 November 1938. For several
months after the Church opened, Funerals continued to be conducted from Saint
Mary’s, Saltcoats, the Mother Parish. The first Funeral in Saint Peter’s was
that of Robert Hastings on 30 December 1938. The seating for about 800 is
constructed of American white oak by Thomas Stewart Limited. A contemporary
report says 'specially designed for comfort in kneeling'. I feel they forgot
about sitting. The photograph below of a procession in the Church Grounds
was taken in June 1945 or 1946. Does anyone know who the priest in the surplice
and soutane is?
GOLDEN WEDDINGS
I am aware of several couples in the parish celebrating their Golden Wedding
this year. My cousin Matt and his wife, Mary from California were married
in the summer of 1963 and are coming to stay for a few days next weekend.
I would be delighted to bless the Golden Couples at Mass next Saturday evening.
Can you please phone the office on 464063 so that I don’t miss anyone?
REFUGEES FROM SYRIA
The plight of the Syrian refugees is terrible to see on television and in
reports from the Aid Agencies. The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund
(SCIAF) has sent envelopes you can use to make a donation. We will send them
on and there are other ways to help. Pope Francis and the Bishops have asked
us all to pray for the situation in Syria.
MARY’S MEALS CLOTHING AND TEXTILES COLLECTION
The team from Mary's Meals
will be here on the weekend of 21 and 22 September to collect used clothing
and textiles. They cannot take anything else. Have a wardrobe clear-out to
support this important charity.
MARY'S MEALS
Thank you for the backpacks donated to Mary's
Meals. Last week we filled a further 33 backpacks to send to Malawi, making
a total of 983 to date. As this is an ongoing project, we are looking for
more backpacks, tee-shirts, shorts, skirts, summer dresses, flip-flops and
sandals to fit children
aged five to twelve. All donated items, which can be new or in good condition,
should be left in the box in the Church porch.
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY ANNUAL MASS
The Annual Mass for the Saint Vincent de Paul
Society and Blessing of the Sick will take place in Saint Margaret's Cathedral,
Ayr on Thursday 26 September at 7.00 pm.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE 2014

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in early October 2014. At the moment, he is simply
asking for people interested in taking part in such a Pilgrimage to express
their interest by contacting him in one of the ways outlined on the poster.
No commitment is required at this time.

who are three years and above and children whose third birthday is before
28 February 2014. These spaces are funded by North Ayrshire Council. For more

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
