PARISH SOCIALS
Since the Church of Saint Peter in Chains opened, there have been many social
events. Indeed, minutes after the Opening
Ceremony on 2 October 1938, there was a social gathering in the Franciscan
Convent, Montgomerie Crescent, Saltcoats to celebrate the new Church.
Over
the years, there have been Saint Patrick's Nights, Saint Andrew's Nights, Parochial
Reunions, Church Workers' Socials and presentations to priests in various venues
including Castlecraigs and the Lyric Cinema.
In the mid 1960s, the Church
Hall was built. It was a wooden structure which was given a brick outer skin in
the early 1980s. It provided a location for further socials including record hops,
whist drives and bingo.
The completion of the Parish
Centre on 23 December 1997 gave excellent opportunities for socialising in
a purpose-built venue. The first social evening in the Parish Centre was on Saturday
29 August 1998. Two or three times a year, there are Parish Socials involving
humour, quizzes, dancing, singing, food, drinks and fun. Since 2004, there has
been a Burns Supper
at the beginning of the year.
