SUNDAY COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection amounted
to £716.28. We are grateful for your generous support of the Parish. Banker's
Orders amount to an average of £4400 per month.
BANKER'S
ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists
us with the safe handling of cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay
tax, then every £1 you give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would
you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £323.66 - many
thanks.
RETIRED
PRIESTS FUND COLLECTION
Our Retired Priests Fund collection was postponed
in September, though some of you put in your envelopes. The collection will be
taken up over the weekend of 8 and 9 November. We have held over the envelopes
already in and they will be added to the collection.
READERS
Next
weekend's readers are Louise Moore at 5.30 pm, Annie Watt at 10.00 am and Tom
Reid at 12.00 noon.
PARISH OFFICE
The Parish Office is normally staffed
each weekday from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. Outside of these times, there may be someone
there or you can leave a message on 464063.
OUR
DAY BY DAY
Our Day By Day is a little monthly booklet of scripture readings
and thought for each day. You could find it invaluable. The October issue is complimentary.
If you would like to subscribe, please put your name on the list at the stall.
We could make it available at £15 per yearly subscription or £1.50 per month.
MAGNIFICAT
Magnificat is another
monthly booklet. The November issue is complimentary and, like Our Day By Day,
would be ideal for anyone who is housebound.
RACE NIGHT
A Race Night
will be held on 14 November at 8.00 pm to raise funds for a replacement carpet
in the Church. Tickets costing £2.50 are available from the Parish Office.
Sponsorship and prizes are very welcome.
FATHER
JOHN'S EAST
AFRICAN FUND
There will be
a Car Treasure Hunt on Sunday 26 October, meeting at 1.00 pm in the car park.
The cost is £5 per car. For more details, contact Kathleen Quinn. A Tanzanian
Auction will be held on Wednesday 29 October at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre.
Entry is free. Please bring an item - your trash is our treasure! Tea and coffee
will be served and there will be a raffle. Both of these events are to raise funds
for the work Father
John started
in East Africa. We welcome your support. Already we have paid school fees for
some of his students.
THURSDAY
CLUB COFFEE MORNING
The Thursday
Club Coffee Morning will be on Saturday 8 November at 10.30 am in the
Parish Centre. There will be the usual stalls including baking, Christmas goods,
bric-a-brac and so on. All donations of goods are welcome. Tickets cost £1.50.
SAINT MATTHEW’S ACADEMY MALAWI PARTNERSHIP
Saint Matthew's Academy
opened nearly a year and the partnership with Saint Peter’s Primary School continues
to grow. Currently initiatives in Saint Mathew’s include collecting unwanted football
strips in time for Christmas and Christmas gifts for orphan’s parcels with lollipops,
balloons, toothbrushes, pens, pencils, Christmas cards and paper and party toys.
Money is being raised for postage for the gifts and strips with any surplus providing
Christmas parties. The gifts that are being sent cost around 50p, which is a tiny
fraction of what is spent on children in this country. Please pray for success.
IN
YOUR TWENTIES OR THIRTIES?
A programme of events in Glasgow for people in
their twenties has been arranged. Contact Jenny@TwentySomething.eu
for details. The
ThirtySomethings invite you to a ceilidh on Saturday 25 October at Turnbull Hall,
Catholic Chaplaincy, 15 Southpark Terrace, Hillhead, Glasgow G12 8LG from 7.30
to 11.30 pm. The cost is £10 with no need to book. If you would like further
details of this or to receive a programme, including a group walk, hill walk,
monthly meal, film night, coffee and chat, Advent retreat and so on, send a text
message to Claire on 07530 926497 or email
Hugh@project2030.fsnet.co.uk
or visit www.project2030.org.uk.
These projects are sponsored by the Sacred Heart Fathers.
SEVENTIETH
BIRTHDAY OF SAINT PETER’S CHURCH
At the meeting of the Finance Committee this
week, we decided to take the plunge and go ahead with the task of recarpeting
the Church and panelling the Blessed Sacrament Altar. Both projects together will
cost in the region of £10000. We have a legacy of £1000 from Tom McKay
to start us off and the Race Night is coming up soon. I am making an appeal for
400 donations of £20 to cover the rest of the cost. I realise it is not
a good time but if everyone has a hand in paying for the work, we will do it easily.
Envelopes will be available and if you are a taxpayer and fill in the details
on the envelope, your £20 will become more than £25 under Gift Aid.
You can put whatever you want in the envelope. £20 is only a suggestion.
A donation of £100 added to Tom's legacy brings the total to £1100.
FATHER
SHARKEY'S PASSING OUT PARADE
Canon
Matt will be at Sandhurst next weekend
for the Passing Out Parade of Captain Father Stephen Sharkey of the Fourth
Rifles. Father
Gabriel will say the Saturday evening Vigil Mass and Father
Kinsler the 10.00 am and 12 noon Masses. Canon
Matt will be back on Monday.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with the Church and its organisations. As a Church community,
we accept that it is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed,
paid and voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual,
emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
